As you might have heard, Abby has just had her sweet baby girl, Nicole, so I have the privilege of taking care of the Women's Ministry Blog in the meantime. Congratulations, Abby!!!
Now, let's play a game. I thought I'd introduce myself this week so you can get to know the new face on the blog, but instead of simply giving away all my secrets, let's see if you can guess some facts about me.
(1) Where am I from?
Hint: I was born and raised in the region of the United States that's famous for: a tea party that wasn't actually so festive; apple orchards from which you can pick and take home apples to make apple cider, applesauce, apple pie, etc.; an autumn season that has no equal; fresh clam chowdah; and an MLB team that broke the Curse of the Bambino in 2004.
Hint: It involves brushes, palettes, paper, and canvases. This talent and passion was passed down to me from my paternal grandparents, who were so wonderfully skilled in what they did. These days, it also involves brush pens, nibs, and ink bottles.
(3) What do I do?
Hint: My favorite position in this profession has involved children, singing songs, paint-smeared hands, numbers, and letters. My current position in this profession involves adults and teens, grammar, pronunciation, and conversation.
(4) Name some places I've traveled to!
Hint: Place #1 hosted the Summer Olympics in 2008. Place #2 is called the Hilly Place of Frogs in its native language. Place #3 is known for its llamas, alpacas, Nasca lines, and Incan ruins. Place #4 is where much of the action of "The Sound of Music" took place, both historically and in filming. Place #5 is known for its beautiful medieval astronomical clock and the St. Vitus Cathedral, where I sang with my college choir.
Hint: The Book Thief (what a tearjerker), The Help, Pride & Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables (my inspiration since childhood)...
(6) Who is a historic person I admire?
Hint: She authored Let Me Be a Woman, one of my most treasured books. She returned to minister to the very people who killed her husband in Ecuador.
Check your guesses below, and tell me if you got any right! Do we have anything in common??
(1) New England (Boston)
(2) Painting, art, lettering, calligraphy.
(3) I'm a teacher! I used to teach Kindergarten, and now I teach EFL.
(4) #1 Beijing, China (I taught English in a seminary & studied Mandarin); #2 Guanajuato, Mexico (with Mission to the World); #3 Peru (just an adventure); #4 Salzburg & Vienna, Austria (choir tour); #5 Prague, Czech Republic (choir tour)
(5) I love to read fictional novels.
(6) Elisabeth Elliot. What a marvelous, wise soul.
How did it go? :-) Please tell me if you share any of my passions, if you can recommend a great read, or if you'd like to travel somewhere together. They say I make a good travel buddy.
I'm honored and privileged to be here on the Women's Ministry Blog! Thank you for bearing with me as I navigate these responsibilities for the first time. I hope to aid the ladies in uploading some great posts in the next few months, and I hope to get to know YOU more, as well. Until next time!
