Listen that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
My faithful love promised to David.
See I have made him a witness to the peoples,
A ruler and commander of the peoples.
Surely you will summon nations you know not,
And nations you do not know will come running to you,
Because of the Lord your God,
The Holy One of Israel,
For he has endowed you with splendor.”
How do I begin to experience this comfort in my life? Verse 3 provides the answer. It begins by saying, GIVE EAR. In Hebrew that literally means to stretch out or to incline your ear. So, the question becomes thus; if you want to receive God’s comfort in your daily life, which way is your ear leaning? In which way are you hearing His word? What are you listening for? Are you leaning your ear toward God or are you leaning an ear to the problems of the world? The answer is that when you lean your ear toward God, He will comfort you. Therefore, the lesson is that I must come to him. I must hear Him, but most of all, I must seek Him.
