I apologize to anyone who may have been waiting for Part 2, all I can say is that life and some health issues got in the way. But I’m here now and can’t wait to share this post with you and hear if any of you out there has found their WORD of the year. I have, so keep reading and I’ll share my word at the end of this post.
Choosing a WORD for the year is not a random thing like putting a few words in a hat and pulling one out, or flipping through the dictionary and randomly putting your finger on a word. Cause I just did that and the word I landed on was passeres, yep, it’s a word. Look it up! Wink – wink.
For me the whole process starts with prayer. Just conversing with God and asking him to open my heart to exactly what He has prepared for me. And then I must be prepared for Him to answer. I invite the Holy Spirit to open my eyes, ears and mind to what He is leading me towards. Just like the popular song says “Open the Eyes of my Heart Lord”. Then it’s up to me to be watchful, aware and alert, listening intently to the Holy Spirits nudging me in a certain direction, looking out for certain patterns that may repeat themselves in my everyday life. Where am I looking you may be wondering? Well honestly, EVE.RY.WHERE! As I read my bible, I am looking out for a repetitive word or theme. Once I have noted a word or theme I am especially watchful and ask God to confirm it.
Now this word or theme may then be echoed in a Sermon or Bible Study class. That song that just happens to be playing every time you get in the car. It may be a sentiment you get in an email from a friend, a Facebook post, even a MEME! Yep, God has a sense of humor and may even use Social Media to speak to us! (This is how my WORD was confirmed this year.)
Finally, when you determine your WORD, you will just “know it”. I wish I could put this feeling into words, but for me there is a sense of relief, almost like a big sigh coming deep down from my soul and I feel … PEACE! A sense of excitement, that feeling of “of course this is IT”
Mid to late January I was leaning towards two words, but was just not feeling or getting any confirmation on either one. So I started really praying about it, and it took another few weeks for me to confirm my word. I was scrolling down my Facebook wall and noticed one of the repetitive themes I kept posting about, it was a theme that kept coming up in my Verse of the Day on my Bible App and then I just knew that was my word...
Please let me know if you have decided to try asking God for a word, and if you feel comfortable enough to share it with us all here. I personally would love to hear from you.
