Dear Union Church,
Last Sunday the 7th of April, we had a congregational meeting with a wonderful quorum of 55. The meeting was called by Church Council in order to vote on inviting Dr. Ralph Porter to serve as Intentional Interim Pastor of the Union Church.
A motion was made and seconded. After a brief Q & A session, the vote made by secret ballot came in at 54 "yesses" and one "no" - - the motion carried.
I immediately send an email to Ralph to give him the good news, and he replied a few minutes later and officially accepted our calling. In fact, he and Helen felt so Spirit-led, that they enthusiastically bought their plane tickets that same day.
In my closing prayer on Sunday I thanked the Lord for everyone that stood by the Union Church during the last 21 months. It is evident that you don’t just love the building of the Union Church, you love the people. God bless you for that.
I also thanked the Lord for the way He has led this process from the start. I am thankful to the two previous search committees - - they passed the baton to us and we ran it to the end. I’d like to think we have been but one team.
We don’t always understand why the Lord leads us down certain paths or in particular in this case, why things don’t happen in the timing we want.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” - Proverbs 3:5-6
Ralph and Helen are flying in on April 30th and Ralph will be preaching on May 5th. Let’s give them a warm welcome.
May the Lord continue to bless us,
P.S. Please be on the lookout for a letter from the church with a list of items and furniture we will need to furnish the Manse.
