Before the pandemic happened upon us, I had planned for 2020 a service day for the kids in which we would pack bags of supplies for those in need for a ministry close to UCG. I was bummed it wouldn't happen but God put in my heart another way our ministry could serve others while still apart.
As you may or may not know, UCG has had a Food Bank ministry for the past year or so, and I thought it would be amazing to be a part of their great efforts. Simply purchase any of the items on your next grocery run, set them aside and drop them off at church in the designated area by Holman Hall (the large meeting room behind the sanctuary) between September 5-12...and bonus, you can pick up your craft bag at the same time! Any amount, and any combination of items are welcome and needed!
Some ideas to help get your kids involved is to work together to set aside a separate food bank "tithe" or fund over the next week or two and talk about what that money will go towards and how God asks us to give generously from our own means. Have them choose what items to purchase and give, and then take the funds you have saved and if you feel safe, go to the store together and purchase the items. Extra bonus if they pay to grow their social skills and see the value of their money.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this special project, and also how it goes! Share a picture of your children with their donation and I will make sure to share it with the food bank ministry so they can put faces to the donations.
Blessings,
Abby
